In 2016, Jonathan and Susan Kring began the long process of starting Ol' Country Farm. This included purchasing and leasing land, acquiring a small herd of Angus brood cows, and replant the main field with Russell Bermuda grass.
Jonathan and Susan Kring started farming as a way to work together out in God's beautiful creation. Jonathan's service in the US Air Force Reserve requires time away from home but returning home to farm with his Sweetheart makes the time away bearable.
In October of 2018, Ol' Country Farm received the Homegrown By Heroes certification from the Farmer Veteran Coalition.
Russell Bermudagrass, discovered in the late 1970s in Alabama, is now the main type of hay produced by Ol' Country Farm. It has proven itself to be one of the best hybrid Bermuda grasses.
After careful maintenance in the spring and early summer, production starts in the middle to end of summer. It begins with cutting the hay, then a specific blend of tedding and raking to achieve optimal moisture levels, prior to baling. The hay is then baled in a two string bale.
After production the hay is stored in a dry area until sold or loaded onto transportation for delivery.
